Connemara Marble | Pocket Crosses | Crucifix | Lourdes Water Crucifix | Holy Medals | First Holy Communion |
The Celtic Cross is modelled on crosses carved in stone found among the ruins of monasteries around Ireland. They were known as the Irish High Cross and the most famous is the High Cross at Clonmacnois, founded by St, Ciaran in A.D. 545 on the banks of the Shannon in the county of Offaly.
On St. Brigid's Eve, crosses from rushes gathered in local fields are made in preparation of the Patron Saint's Feast-Day, which occurs on the 1st Febuary. The St.Brigid's Cross is traditionally placed over the door to protect people from illness or bad luck. It was believed to help protect against fire, storm and lightening. Also, a symbol of eternal life, the St. Brigid's Cross can also be found on many graves in Ireland; left there by people after visiting a loved one.

"St. Brigid's Cross" Irish Connemara Marble Key Ring Genuine Connemara Marble Key Rings Hand Carved and Polished in Ireland. One of the most widespread Irish customs associated with St Brigid is the making of the Cros Bride (St Brigid's Cross) which may have originated as a sun symbol. In St Brigid's time, it was customary for rushes to be strewn on the floor of a dwelling. Legend tells us that, one day, Brigid visited a pagan chieftain who was on his deathbed. As she sat by his bed, she reached down and picked up some rushes from the floor and wove them into a cross. The chieftain asked what she was doing and she told him about the significance of the Christian cross and how Jesus had died to save all people, including him. He was overcome by the idea that he could be loved so much and was converted to Christianity before he died.

"Lourdes Water" Crucifix 1" x 3" Crucifix with 18" Chain. The Crucifix contains a small vial of water from Lourdes.
The origins of the pilgrimage to Lourdes began with 14 year old Bernadette Soubirous, the daughter of devout Christian peasants. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, Bernadette saw apparitions of a white-robed lady 18 times in a small grotto called Massabiele, along the banks of the river Gave de Pau. On the day of the 16th apparition, March 25, the lady revealed herself as Mary. During her ecstatic trance in front of the grotto that day, Bernadette suddenly rose from her knees, walked a short distance, and fell to the ground. Fervently she began to dig in the earth until a small puddle of water appeared. Over the next few days the puddle gradually formed into a pool and eventually became the sacred spring for which Lourdes is now so famous.
